Description: As the largest Myioborus ѕрeсіeѕ, the painted redstart (Myioborus pictus) measures between 5.1 to 5.9 inches (13–15 cm) in length, with a wingspan of 8.3 inches (21 cm) and weighing 0.3–0.4 oz (8.5–11.3 g). Both sexes exhibit identical plumage, characterized by glossy black feathers, a vivid red lower breast and Ьeɩɩу, prominent white wing patches, and white markings below the eyes.

Both male and female birds exhibit similar appearances, with females possessing a ᴜпіqᴜe ability to sing as proficiently as males.

Location: The painted redstart, also known as the painted whitestart (Myioborus pictus), is a New World warbler ѕрeсіeѕ inhabiting mountainous regions across inland Central America. They rank among the largest warblers, measuring up to 6 inches (150 mm) in length, including their tails.

Habitat: The Painted Redstart occupies semi-humid oak and pine-oak woodlands with dense undergrowth and access to water during both its breeding and wintering seasons. In Central America, it can also be found in arid to semi-humid woodlands. During the winter, some Painted Redstarts migrate to lower altitudes.

Diet: The Painted Redstart employs various feeding techniques, including gleaning from leaves and branches, hover gleaning, and catching insects on the wing through hawking.

Breeding: Nesting on the ground among rocks, roots, or tufts of grass on steep slopes, painted redstarts construct large, shallow nests using bark strips, plant fibers, leaves, and grass. The female typically lays 3 or 4 speckled white to cream-colored eggs, and incubation lasts approximately 14 days. However, many nesting details remain largely unknown.
