After seen using sneakers not produced by Nike, Cristiano Ronaldo has generated some controversy.
Unquestionably the face of their football business, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been signed to the swoosh brand for more than 20 years.
In 2016, Ronaldo secured a lucrative lifelong contract with Nike, donning over 70 pairs of their boots, including his signature CR7 variations. Reportedly earning £147 million annually from this deal, Ronaldo is rumored to have exclusive access to a secret website where he can order anything he desires from Nike’s extensive collection.
Ronaldo was seen, meanwhile, sporting shoes created by one of Nike’s competitors despite the freebies.
Ronaldo was recently playing padel tennis with pal Miguel Paixao; a picture of the two was uploaded online.
Though he is not thought to have any contract with them, the Al Nassr star is obviously sporting Asics trainers.Though not a direct rival of Nike in the running shoe business, the Portuguese star has been observed sporting Louis Vuitton and Gucci.
He wore Nike trainers on the court in the past, but on this occasion he controversially choose Asicas.
It continues from his seeming to use Adidas shinpads for Al Nassr versus Celta Vigo in pre-season action last year.Ronaldo’s son Cristiano Jr. faced criticism in 2022 for donning Adidas gear.
To her 2.6 million followers, Ronaldo’s mother Maria Dolores sent a quick snapshot including her and her grandson.
Many critics pointed out that he had Adidas sliders and socks but a Nike hoodie.
Furious, Ronaldo resolved to bite back by saying: “He wears what he wants. Not what you intended.”
After his participation in Euro 2024 with Portugal, Ronaldo is on a sabbatical now and should shortly join Al Nassr for pre-season.
