Diogo Costa shares unforgettable memories with his senior after the emotional victory against Slovenia in the EURO round of 16.
“I cried when I heard Ronaldo say those words,” Costa shared in a video on the EURO 2024 fan page.
After four important matches at the EURO, Ronaldo has yet to score a goal, despite being the player with the most shots (20 times). Even when he had a chance from 11 meters, the 39-year-old forward could not beat Jan Oblak.
The missed penalty in the first extra time made both Ronaldo and his mother, Dolores, cry. Luck still smiled on Portugal, which won the penalty shootout thanks to the brilliant performance of goalkeeper Costa.
Costa, who became Portugal’s savior, said: “We all had faith, even when Ronaldo missed a penalty. Faith and solidarity helped us achieve victory.”
“This was probably the best game of my life. Of course, we looked at Slovenia’s penalty takers, but they also changed the way they shoot. I judged intuitively and I am lucky to be able to help the team continue,” Costa added.
The quarterfinal match between Portugal and France will take place at 2:00 a.m. on July 6.
